Choose Life
In
the United States there is an average of 34,000 individuals that lose
their lives every year consequently to driving. Reasoning’s could
have been due to texting while driving, someone not paying attention,
being under the influence, or just simply an accident. Either way we
should do everything possible to lower this status to driving. I
propose that we become knowledgeable about the responsibility of
driving, paying attention and not only driving only for ourselves but
for others, understanding that there are innocent passengers, and
considering possibilities in becoming a safer driver for all.
Becoming
knowledgeable about the responsibility of driving should act as a
huge factor in driving every day. The facts are that there are more
people who have died
in
one year as a result of driving, than the total numbers of
American
soldiers who have lost their lives from war in Iraq and Afghanistan
merged. If we do not take responsibility of our actions while driving
this number will increase. Let’s choose life.
Focusing
on driving for not only ourselves but for others as well can reduce
the number of deaths in our country. Texting while driving, arguing
on the phone, having a lot of things on our mind can lead to taking
someone away from their family members. Let’s take a few more
precautions while driving. For an example try taking 5 extra seconds
to look both ways at a red light before accelerating on green; or
actually stopping at a stop sign; or by installing a “Drive Mode”
app on your phone. This will eliminate any phone calls, text
messages, or any notifications to distract you. Choose your life.
I
have been involved in more than one accident, some more serious than
others. The one that scared me the most was when a super duty pickup
truck took a wide turn into my lane and hit the mirror of my vehicle
while my 5 year old and 1 year old was in the car. By that driver not
waiting and being inpatient he could have taken me away from my kids.
Once again, let’s choose life.
There
have been multiple occasions that I have witness my family and
friends driver recklessly. You should always make them aware of their
wrong doing and offer to drive. I have even gone as far to threaten
to call the police department. I did this because I choose to live,
especially for my children. What will be your choice?
Some
precautions that can we can all take are to stay focus on the road,
driving for yourself and others, and consider to the fact that you
can not only hurt someone, but you can kill yourself and others. It
is really simple. You can make simple adjustments like taking a few
seconds to look in all directions before accelerating and even
downloading an app to your phone that will help you not get
distracted. What will be your choice? Mine is to choose life for
myself and others.
