Education Is Key
Driver’s
education should be a priority of any teenager who is looking to get
their license. Not because if they get it done quickly they can pass,
but because they are trying to prepare themselves to be on the road
and make wise decisions that will protect them and others. Education
on all the possible dangers of driving can help prevent accidents. If
you take drivers ed, you can learn what to do to avoid and prevent
accidents through good driving practices such as always having an
exit route, space cushions, and always being aware of the cars around
you. Without knowing the laws of the road, accidents can be caused
out of pure ignorance. Everyone who drives should have some form of
credible drivers ed, especially teenagers. To directly reduce the
number of deaths while driving, drivers should never drive under the
influence of alcohol or any drug that could cause impairment, while
overtired, or distracted. Distracted driving especially is a large
cause of accidents among teens. I have seen my mom get in a minor
accident because she was so exhausted. There were a lot of family
issues going on and it was rough on all of us, but it took the
largest toll on her. We were in bumper to bumper traffic and she
started to drift to sleep and tapped the car in front of us then woke
up. The driver in front of us wasn’t angry, but everyone who gets
in a minor accident isn’t so lucky. My mom at the time had no one
else to take me where I needed to go, but maybe we could’ve tried
harder to try and find a different solution. It is important for
drivers to get good rest before getting on the road to protect
themselves and others around them. Before doing things you know you
shouldn’t on the road think to yourself: is it worth the life of
someone else? When you get into a car, in a way you are responsible
for your life and the life of those on the road around you. It is
important to make sure you place value on life rather than mundane
distractions or unnecessary risks.
