Flood Warning

I’d
rather be anywhere else in the world but here. I said in my head
disdainfully as I held my hands at positions nine and three. Looking
over to my right, was my drivers ed teacher silent . Instructing me
to go down Main Street, I quietly moaned in disdain. We were going on
the highway. I gripped the wheel tighter as we began to pick up speed
onto the moderately filled highway. Checking my mirrors constantly, I
was in a state of panic, because It had started to rain. Why did it
have to rain when I just started driving!! This rain wasn’t an
ordinary rain, it was torrential rain that made loud pangs on the
roof. My drivers ed teacher murmured that it was fine and to keep
going…boy did I hate it! We continued on the highway for our hour
slot and I was ready for it to be over. Only being able to see the
line ahead of me was frightening….until it wasn’t. Fast forward a
year, and I am driving with my parents on the way to a vacation in
Florida. It was my turn to drive, so I put the car in cruise control
and boy did we cruise. Until it happened again…yes it rained. This
rain wasn’t ordinary either , in fact it was like we were in the
forest during monsoon season! Sheets and sheets of rain poured over
the car. Windshield wipers on the highest setting it could go, but I
wasn’t scared. Keeping my hands in position , we continued the
journey with no problems, because I had already experienced it! I had
experienced driving on the road and only seeing the line in front of
me and I had survived! Coming out of that experience I realized just
how valuable drivers ed was in helping me overcome the “unexpected”.
