Driving
is a Privilege

The
ability to drive a car in America is often taken for granted.
Citizens are taught the rules and restrictions when operating an
automobile on the streets early on in their lives. It is true that we
are knowledgeable of the risks and dangers when it comes to driving a
car, but many seem to take this form of transportation for granted.
Many speed numerous miles per hour over the speed limit, which is
specifically provided for our safety and the safety of others.

Drivers
need to be reeducated about the rules and regulations when it comes
to operating any motor vehicle. In understanding more about operating
vehicles, citizens are provided with important information that would
allow for less accidents and reckless driving. The decrease in
dangerous driving would decrease the national number of highway
fatalities. A solution to begin increasing the amount of safe drivers
would to supply government funded drivers ed courses for all
drivers. This simple solution would prove highly effective and allow
drivers of all ages to be assessed on their capability to operate a
vehicle. If proven insufficient to do so, they will be provided with
courses to reintroduce the rules of safe driving.

In
providing classes to drivers, this would prevent the worry of getting
involved in an accident. An accident can happen at any point and even
when you are least expecting it. For instance, my dad has been part
of an accident when a car was making a right hand turn at an
intersection. My dad was crossing the street when a car didn’t stop
behind the line at the crosswalk. He was struck by the car and made
aggressive contact with the street after rolling off the top of the
car which caused a severe head concussion.

Most
accidents are easily avoided if one of the parties involved was safe
and followed the provided guidelines. Simple steps taken to be a safe
driver would be to be knowledgeable of the guidelines and take into
consideration the fact that even if you know the rules that doesn’t
mean someone else will. When driving, it is your goal to get to and
from your destination in the safest and most efficient way possible.
It is important to be aware of your surroundings when driving and to
use all the safety features available in your vehicle. For example,
when changing lanes, use your mirrors along with checking your blind
spots. It is also important to use the provided turn signals or hand
signals. Driving safe while others are around influences others to
use safe driving techniques on streets and highways.

It
is common knowledge that safely driving leads to decreased motor
vehicle accidents which also decreases the national number of
fatalities from vehicle accidents. In order to maintain this pattern
of safety, it is important that drivers and educated and reintroduced
to all safety guidelines provided. We need to protect our citizens
and drive safer in order to do so.
