I
remember the first time that I got behind the wheel; I was excited
and nervous to actually be driving on the big open roads. As I
started the car, my dad told me to never forget that every time you
drive you are 6 inches from death. I had never heard that until that
moment and it never really occurred to me that every time you drive
you aren’t guaranteed to come out the same way that you went in.
Drivers ed taught me so much more than just how to operate a
car. It taught me how to be a safe and responsible driver. The
instructors teach you this by showing you the consequences of unsafe
driving. It is scary seeing some of these stories because nobody
thinks it could be them until it happens to them. Having knowledge of
safe driving can reduce the number of deaths as a result of driving.

I
believe that greater awareness and enforcement of drunk driving laws
would be helpful because it would bring the issue to people’s
attention and maybe it would open their eyes to the bigger problem.
Teaching younger drivers more about driving and the risks that come
with driving could open their minds to the reality of driving.
Parents can also enforce their driving rules more strict to make sure
that their kids really understand that driving is a privilege, not a
right. Even with these implanted, there will still be the few that
choose not to listen and that will put other innocent drivers at
risk.

Thankfully
nobody in my family or I have been involved in a car accident, but I
have been in quite a few close calls. One thing I have learned from
those close calls is that they happen in a blink of an eye. Another
thing that I learned is that these close calls almost happened
because of other careless drivers that are in a rush for no reason.
They don’t understand that they could have hurt me and my family
because they are careless and don’t pay attention or because they
are late to somewhere. It’s as easy as leaving a little earlier
that can save you or an innocent person’s life out on the roads. I
do know some people that are those careless drivers because they
think that this could never happen to them and they think that they
are invincible.

Following
the state-issued laws could save multiple lives out on the roads.
These laws are enforced to keep us safe, so we should actually follow
them to make sure that we are staying safe on the roads. It’s sad
seeing the news stories of innocent people dying because they were
involved in an accident. These laws will help prevent these types of
new stories if everyone was to follow these laws/rules. I hope that
driving becomes safer the more and more we learn and are opened up to
the tragedies of risky driving.
