Sparing Lives One Lesson at a Time

Sparing
Lives One Lesson at a Time

As
teenagers, we are fascinated with the concept of driving. By the time
we are 18, we have picked our dream car by make and model. We imagine
driving behind the wheel without our parents because driving becomes
a symbol of independence. At times we view driving as a luxury, a
bragging right even, but we don’t stop to really listen about the
dangers of driving others warn us about. We think we are old enough
and mature enough. We think “That won’t happen to me”.

When
I was younger, I had the same mentality. I was the girl who played
with toy cars and couldn’t wait to drive. My dad, realizing my
interest in driving, began to advise me about the dangers of driving
early on. He said “It can happen in an instant”. I listened
passively, like other teens, thinking that his advice was common
sense, until I saw an accident unfold in front of me.

Two
cars collided as my family and I sat inside a restaurant. Luckily, a
police officer patroling the area was able to call paramedics. We
watched two teenagers taken out of their vehicles and were shocked to
see that none of them looked old enough to drive, yet they were badly
injured by the accident. I saw myself in them and realized really
quickly that I needed the proper preparation before I drove.

Driving
Education can help reduce the amount of car accident deaths. They are
professionals with years of expertise in driving. By passing on their
wisdom to you, you and your family can feel safer when you drive and
know that safe habits will be instilled in you. Driving Education can
else help reduce the amount of car accidents by ensuring that you
practice for the right amount of hours and with the right training.
Although your parents may be safe drivers, they might not know the
best ways to help you practice. They probably have experience driving
but not teaching the skill. Plus, driving professionals can teach you
things your parents might not have thought off, like checking your
lights on the windows of buildings or reflection of other cars.

Driving
Education is not the only step needed to becoming a safe driver,
however. It is up to you to retain the knowledge you learned by
practicing and frequently reviewing what you have been taught. Make
sure you are always up to date though because rules change. You
should also monitor your own driving behavior. When you notice
yourself being distracted or driving on an auto-pilot state of mind,
refocus. Another way to be a safe driver is to make sure that you are
always at an optimal state to drive. If you believe that at one point
you believe you won’t be, such as after a party, make sure you
bring along someone who is trustworthy and will remain sober.
Furthermore, make sure that your car is also ready to drive. Take
care of it and constantly get it checked !

Driving
is a privilege and a responsibility. You have the power to spare
lives by taking Drivers Ed and making sure that through lessons, you
can be the best driver you can be, so you can enjoy your independence
and new car with a sense of safety.
