Prompt: What is the
importance of drivers ed in reducing the number of deaths as a
result of driving?

The importance of
drivers ed is extreme. It helps keep the roads as safe as
possible for all drivers. Many people can attest to the importance of
drivers ed due to accidents, deaths, and near misses they have
encountered.

In
my life I have been in two near misses while driving. Neither
incident was my fault and if the situation was any different I could
have been in the hospital or worse. My first near miss accident was
when another driver ran a red light at about 50 miles an hour, at a
40 miles per hour speed limit, while I was turning left. They missed
my car by a couple of inches at most. To say that this was the
scariest moment of my life is an understatement. I realized that
without my time in drivers ed it could have been much worse.
Drivers ed prepared me for the actions of other drivers and how
to deal with these types of situations.

The
amount of deaths can drop significantly if drivers ed was
taken seriously. Drivers ed should not be taken as a joke or
anything else. When a driver is on the road, everyone’s life is at
risk because you never know what could happen. Drivers ed
teaches you how to watch and respond to anything on the road. This is
so important in reducing deaths. Many deaths wouldn’t have happened
if the drivers were paying attention to the road or not distracted in
general.

In
addition to drivers ed, I also participated in a program at my
high school called Vehicle Injury Prevention for a Very Important
Person. It was a very real and frightening experience, but provided a
good look at what could happen with the bad effects of driving. I
learned so much from that program and I live by what they taught.
Through graphic videos and photographs real life situations were
shown. It affected so many people and had a great outcome with my
classmates. It has kept me grounded and very aware of my surroundings
when driving. I would absolutely recommend this program to anyone
that is about to drive or has already been driving. Not many people
can say they had an experience with bad driving, either them or the
other vehicle involved. It shows the consequences of what could
happen. It uses peoples pathos to make them aware of what could
happen to them and others if something were to happen.

A
person or family should not go through the pain of having someone die
or get severely injured in an accident. That’s why drivers ed
is important. It can reduce deaths by teaching drivers about the
rules of the road and ways to not be distracted and aware on the
road. The amount of deaths would be greatly affected by driver
education being taken seriously and having awareness spread vastly.

In
conclusion, I believe drive education is a valuable course that
should be taken seriously. I always think back to my class lessons
and practice with the driving instructor when I am driving.
