Creating a Safer World
Creating
a Safer World
I believe it’s
important for people to take drivers ed. Most people know
what a stop sign looks like and what traffic light colors mean, but
if you were on a hill and needed to park your car would you know
which away to turn your wheel so that if your car started rolling
backwards it would not roll into traffic. I certainly would not have
if it were not for drivers’ education. That is why drivers’
education is important because if someone doesn’t understand the
rules of the road they can’t follow them correctly. This can cause
accidents, which could lead to deaths. Drivers ed also
teaches people how to handle their vehicles if they are in a
dangerous situation, so they can protect themselves and other
drivers. According to the AAA Foundation, people who have taken
drivers ed are less likely to receive traffic convictions
or get in accidents compared to people who have taken driver’s
education.
Deaths
related to driving can be prevented by requiring all people to take a
drivers ed course that way they will know the rules of the
road and what different signs mean so they can follow them correctly.
Requiring all drivers to attend a seminar once every two years on
driving rules and safety could also help prevent further deaths.
People at the seminar would be reminded of things they might have
forgotten and updated on any new road rules or changes to the rules,
which would help them be safer drivers.
When
I was five years old I was in a car accident. My mother, sisters and
I were in our van as my mom pulled out into stopped traffic to turn
left. Wham! Someone hit us. The person who hit us was driving quickly
down the turn lane, which is illegal, and hit our car. I was young so
I didn’t know understand that we were just hit by another car, but
I can still vividly remember what happened. Thankfully no one was
injured. However, the accident totaled our van. After that when my
parents went to look for a new vehicle they bought a suburban because
it is a safer vehicle, that way if we ever got in an accident again
we would be better protected.
To
become a safer driver, I can review the rules of the road and the
meanings of traffic signs every three months and encourage others to
do the same. When I drive if I obey the rules of the road that will
make me a safer driver. By encouraging others to take driver’s
education and obey the rules of the road I can help people become
safer driving. Making people aware of the dangers of driving will
also help others become safer drivers. In the end, if we all know and
abide by the rules of the road and know how to drive defensively we
can create a world with safer drivers and fewer accidents.
