In
a world where vehicles are used as a main source of transportation,
it is often that you can see vehicular accidents happening around you
from ill-informed drivers making driving mistakes. Drivers ed
is paramount in reducing the number of traffic related deaths and we
can all take steps in helping the issue.
Unquestionably,
there are a number of traffic-related deaths stemming from uninformed
drivers. If someone does not know what actions to take on the street,
it can cause confusion in the roads. If someone makes a wrong turn or
movement, it can cause other drivers to be caught off-guard and cause
the cars to collide. According to a study found in Article 1, “The
death rates in 1995 for the least-educated individuals were about 2.5
times higher than their erudite counterparts, and in 2010, that death
rate disparity
increased to 4.3 times higher.” This information shows a clear link
from vehicle education to accidents.
That
is to say, we can all take steps in helping to reduce the number of
traffic- related deaths. The steps that could be taken, would be to
make people more aware, and to enforce laws related to driving.
Contained in Article 2 – “Raising
awareness of, legislating and enforcing laws governing speed limits,
alcohol impairment, seat-belt use, child restraints and safety
helmets.” This will help inform people to be safer drivers.
The
facts presented in black-and-white seem close to nothing important
but when given a real-life situation, they feel all the more true. My
personal experience was in 2008. It was a normal Sunday – my family’s
day to go to church. While stopped at a red light, there was a slight
moment of bliss until we all heard a loud vehicle increasing in
speed. A truck rear-ended my parents’ car. It turned out the driver
was driving carelessly. If he was more informed or more aware
of the penalties that could have been given, he may
have been able to prevent the accident. That horrific memory will
always haunt me. Now that I am soon to become an adult driver
on the road, steps that I can do to become a safer driver are to
educate myself on the rules of the road and spread some awareness
about the importance of education, as well.
Based
on the above incident
and those of all other accident victims, drivers ed is
essential in reducing the number of traffic-related deaths and we can
all take steps in subduing the issue. Being educated is truly
important and everyone should indulge in educating themselves on
driving safety. If we could all take a part in educating ourselves in
being cautious drivers there can be millions of lives saved from
unneeded accidents.
