Life behind the wheel
I’m
not a perfect driver. In fact, I can’t even drive anymore due to my
learners permit expiring. It’s not that I can’t drive, I just
couldn’t afford insurance for a license. It’s pretty boring as
well but it doesn’t mean I can slip up. A life could end as easy as
blowing out a candle when they’re on the road.
Like everyone, I have attended drivers ed. Like everyone, I thought
it was boring. It’s something no one wants to do but has to. In the
class I definitely learned things I didn’t know about that have
helped me as a driver, which has helped with my safety as one.
Certain road signs, when I can and cannot make a left turn, and the
basic statistics on what causes crashes has changed my perspective on
driving. Even though I only had my permit, I did drive a lot due to
being in colorguard and having frequent practices. I have drifted out
of my lane, I have turned onto the line splitting the lanes. Driving
isn’t an easy thing to do and should be taken seriously. Especially
since people don’t.
I
have witnessed a car accident when someone pulled out of a parking
lot, and someone speeding t-boned them. The person speeding didn’t
see the sign saying their lane merged into ours. No one got hurt.
Just damage to the cars. Experiencing that made me truly realize how
easy you can get into a car accident purely due to other people. My
sister has been very fortunate, she has the unfortunate luck when
driving, having been in multiple car accidents. She always finds a
way to get out of the costs of the car damage but it does pile up on
her. The fact that whether or not the accident is your fault yet you
still have costs to pay makes it even more important to know the ins
and outs of driving
Harming
someone else due to my driving would eat me up with guild. Having
killed someone in an accident wouldn’t just affect me, but it would
affect that person’s friends and family. Not to mention you’d be
charged for manslaughter. That could end your career choices then and
there, unless you work the harder life and work for yourself. Even if
you do though guilt will still be there in the back of your head,
nipping at you constantly. An easy way to avoid that is to simply be
a safe driver and follow the law regardless of what you think of it.
Pay attention to the road, stay off your phone, wear your seatbelt.
It all matters. It’s there for a reason.
It
only takes a second. A second to change everything in your life when
you’re behind the wheel. Laws are made to protect people, which
means you need to follow them for that safety they were made for. You
learn it in drivers ed, you’ve heard it from multiple people in
your life, drive safe, you’re not the only one out there on the
road.
