The
total amount of Americans who die from vehicular accidents is an
average of 34,000 people each year. This high number is the reason
why drivers ed is so important in reducing the number of deaths
as a result of driving. Drivers ed helps to provide
Americans with the knowledge needed to operate a vehicle safely for
both them as the driver and others as in pedestrians or passengers.
Some
steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to
driving include, following traffic rules, being aware, and most
importantly being patient. The reason I say being patient is so
important is because that’s what my father taught me when I was
learning to drive. Too often we’re always in a rush to get
somewhere or to do something and this can be very dangerous because
you can miss a lot of important things.
I
have had an experience of being in a car accident and to this day I
always think about it while I’m driving. Thankfully, no one was
majorly injured however, it was a very scary experience. My car
accident involved a drunk driver, and drunk driving is what I despise
the most. Every day on the road, you see someone speeding down,
driving recklessly and putting others in danger, however, driving
while under the influence is just something that I cannot understand.
For
me, some steps that I can take to be a better and safe driver is just
being aware of my surroundings. Understand that I can get from point
A to point B while being patient and following all of the traffic
rules. I can also help others become safer on the road by letting
other know especially if I am with them, that they need to slow down
or that to pay attention to the road instead of their phone. It’s
important to call others out when they’re in the wrong, even though
they might be your friend, you’re not only saving them and
yourself, you are saving other people, who have families and
children.
