The Importance of Drivers ed
Educating
young drivers can be crucial for reducing the number of deaths caused
by driving in the future. When a new driver is being educated, they
are being taught important information about safe driving habits and
techniques along with proper driver techniques to use when a problem
occurs before they even get behind the wheel of a car. After, they
have drivers training with an instructor which again teached them
safe driving habits. This education and practice is important because
it creates the safe habits which the student will likely use for the
rest of their life. Unless they go out of their way to break or
unlearn what they were taught, they will be more likely to be safe
behind the wheel and prevent injury or death of them and those around
them.
Teaching
more extensive driving techniques is vital to saving the lives of
drivers. One of the biggest issues with drivers is that they are
unconfident behind the wheel when driving and are incapable of
driving in any other way, especially defensively. In most
circumstances when something goes wrong in a car and the driver has
to take action, it requires very quick and precise movements. It
might be swerving out of the way of another car, slamming on the
breaks to prevent a collision, speeding up to get out of the way of
an unsuspecting car, or countersteering when a car has spun out. In
countries such as Germany and Sweden, drivers go through much more
vigorous driving school and therefore have the knowledge to handle
their car properly in all situations. If the U.S. required drivers
training to be this thorough, drivers would be much more skilled and
the rate of death caused by poor drivers would be greatly reduced.
The drivers training in many other countries is far superior to that
in the United States and should be used as a guide to create a
program that leaves all drivers on the road smart and skilled.
I
have been in a car with a few friends who are unsafe and I quickly
took action. I tried my hardest to convince them to be more careful
and if they refused, I would not drive with them ever again. Their
actions are out of my control, but I can control who I drive with and
I can also warn other people about driving with them.
In
order for me to be safer while on the road, I can become educated in
advanced driving techniques and implement them in my driving. I can
also spread the knowledge that I learned with friends and family so
that they are able to be safer behind the wheel as well. Although I
am only one person and can only affect so many people, teaching
everyone I can about what I learned and encouraging them to teach
others will cause knowledge to quickly spread and will save thousands
of lives.
