Education Essay

Driver
education is vital in reducing the number of deaths as a result of
driving. Many people do not know how many people die because of
vehicle accidents. According to Wikepedia, in 2017 there were 40,327
people were killed in the U.S. alone because of motor vehicle
collisions. The number one reason that people in America get in car
accidents is because they are distracted. If people were more
educated on these statistics and the safest methods to take while
driving then it would greatly reduce the number of deaths in this
country from car accidents. Most people are distracted because they
are on their cell phones. Texting and driving is incredibly dangerous
and leads to many deaths.

I
am in psychology this semester at my high school and we learned that
it is impossible for a human being to multi task. So, when a person
is texting and driving they can’t be giving their full attention to
the road and cars surrounding them. The number one killer of
teenagers is car accidents. This is because many teenagers text and
drive and think that they can multi task when it is in fact literally
impossible. If teenagers would stop texting and driving then many
less people would die. A lot of teenagers have something called a
‘superman complex’ which is where they don’t really believe
that anything can hurt them and judging by the numbers this is just
not the case.

I
myself was in a very minor car accident. I was looking in my review
mirror for too long and did not see that the car in front of me had
come to a stop. I rear ended his car and we both pulled over to see
if there was any damage. Luckily I was going very slow so there was
no damage and the man was extremely kind to me about it but it got me
so shaken up that I started to have a panic attack when I got to
school that morning because I could have gotten hurt if the
circumstances had been different. When I was in second grade my great
grandfather died in a car accident because a lady was driving very
fast over the speed limit and he didn’t see her coming up the hill.
He died instantly and it was an extreme tragedy to my family and I.
Ever since then my mom has been a lot more cautious when it comes to
driving.

The
first step I can take to becoming a better driver is to not be so
sleepy in the mornings when I drive to school. I think part of the
reason why I rear ended that car was because I was so tired. There
are also a lot of people, like truckers, who fall asleep while
driving and this causes accidents as well. I can also implement a no
phone policy when I am driving and for the person that is driving me.
Phones should not be a part of the equation at all when a person is
driving and if I start telling my friends that I have no tolerance
for texting and driving then it could save our lives as well as
someone else’s.
