The
Significance of Safety While Driving

It
is very important that teenagers take Drivers Ed as soon as they
get the chance. It’s not just about “knowing how to drive” it’s
also about everything else that comes with driving. Driver’s
Education can inform students on a lot of things that they didn’t
know was important when it comes down to driving. I hope that by the
end of this essay you have a better understanding on the significance
of safety while you’re driving.

If
you know how to drive, then that’s great. But when you’re
driving, you must be aware of your surroundings. Just because you
know how to drive, doesn’t mean that everyone else around you know
how to drive. Driving is pretty much just common sense, but common
sense isn’t common these days. When you’re driving, you must be
aware of so many things. Reckless drivers are a great example. When I
say, “reckless driver”, I mean someone who is speeding while
they’re driving, not looking where they’re going, etc. You must
be aware of reckless drivers because you could be doing everything
you’re supposed to while driving on the road, but there’s still a
big possibility you can somehow run into a reckless driver, or get
ran into by one.

Although,
there are of many things you have to be aware of while driving, there
are also many things you yourself as a driver to make driving a bit
safer. First things first, never text and drive. If you get a text
message while driving, ignore it. Every day, 11 teenagers die in car
accidents from texting and driving. There are 2.35 million people in
the United States who are injured by car accidents and over 300,00 of
these accidents are caused by texting and driving. So, if you receive
a text message while you’re driving, ignore it or wait until you’re
not driving anymore to respond to the text message.

Second,
never drive under the influence. Driving under the influence is
illegal and unsafe as well. As you’re under the influence of either
alcohol, or any type of drugs, it might seem like you’re okay to
drive. Just because you “feel” like you’re okay to drive,
doesn’t mean that you’re okay to drive. If you and a group of
friends are going out and planning on drinking, make sure you and
your friends have a designated driver. Every day, 29 people in the
United States die in car accidents due to driving under the influence
which is one person every 50 minutes. It’s important to make sure
you or your friends aren’t driving under the influence. Also, if
you have a friend that’s trying to drive under the influence, take
their keys or give them a ride home.

The
safety of driving is a lot more serious than people think it is. It’s
very important to make sure you don’t text and drive or drive under
the influence because those are two main causes of car accidents. I
hope now you have a better understanding of the safety of driving.
