Driver
Education is important in helping reduce the number of driving
related deaths. It can inform many people about how to be a safe
driver. And with more knowledge, there is power. And with more
powerful drivers would come safe drivers. Some steps that can be
taken to help reduce the number of driving related deaths are the
usage of cell phones, less distractions in the car, and a better way
for teens to learn about the dangers of distracted driving.

When
it comes to using a phone in the car, teens really do not understand
how bad things can go. A lot of teenagers think to themselves,
I’ll
be perfectly fine, I know how to drive and text.” But in
reality, they’re new to the whole driving scene and still have a lot
to learn. Then when it comes to teens learning about the dangers of
distracted driving, there isn’t really much in school that they teach
anymore. My school has just recently started having a speaker come
and talk to the whole school about distracted driving. But before
that I never really even thought about it. I feel like schools need
to have better outreach to teens about the dangers of distracted
driving.

I
have had a lot of experiences in my life where my friends start
texting and driving. I try to immediately take their phone away,
safely, and do whatever they were doing for them; so their eyes can
stay on the road. And whenever I’m in a car, I always give my phone
to the passenger so they can control the music or do whatever they
want. Or if I’m by myself, I pick the playlist I want and set my
phone in the passenger seat. I always try to make sure my friends
understand the dangers of distracted driving. Sometimes they just
roll their eyes at me and ignore me, but I just want them to know how
to be safe on the road.
