Teaching drivers
education to the youth should be a top priority for they are the
future of our country. We will soon be sharing the roads with these
people so it is important that they know what they are doing by the
time they start driving to ensure everyone stays as safe as possible
while behind the wheel. I’m sure you wouldn’t want to go to a gun
range with someone uninformed on proper gun safety, so why drive with
someone who doesn’t know the rules of the road. Research has found
that drivers ed results in a decrease in teen car crashes,
says a 2015 study by Newsroom. It is important to make sure that
students are educated fully so they can feel comfortable behind the
wheel. This is also important as stress will result in nonnational
decisions which could injure you or other drivers on the road. It is
very important to push the idea that cars are very heavy objects that
can result in a lot of damage, which is why I felt that crash videos
were helpful in my time at driving school, because although some were
gruesome, they did a good job of making me remember some important
rules, such as always wear a seatbelt.
Reducing the amount
of fatalities on the road is no easy task, public safety
organizations have been trying for years, and have had positive
results. I feel that there can be even more done to reduce the risk
of deaths. Most of the advertising for traffic safety is done in
school, or a classroom like environment, which leads to children
getting distracted and not pay attention, I can assure you I was
daydreaming for a good amount of my drivers ed. I think that by
having the families of new drivers explain to importance of proper
safety on the road, there will be a drastic decrease in the amount of
deaths across the country. This is because younger people will
respond more positively if they know that their actions can affect
their families and the people they love.
The fall of my
senior year of high school I got into a serious accident with my two
best friends that left my car totaled. Although we all were able to
walk away my best friend who was in the passenger seat hit his head
on the windshield and had a large bump on his head for a week. My
friend in the back is lucky to be alive, as he was not wearing a
seatbelt, which I was not aware of at the time of the accident. He
luckily stayed in the back seats and was not hurt at all.
The main steps to becoming a better driver starts with being more
selfless, most accidents are caused by people rushing and thinking
they are more important than others on the road and preaching
selflessness is a good way to weed out the bad driving mentalities.
