You Only Live Once, So Protect That!

To current and future drivers,

Being
responsible while on the road is an extremely important task. The way
you drive not only affects yourself, but also those around you as
well. Many fatalities are caused every day from automobile accidents
and that is why it is important to be educated on driving safely. If
more people, especially younger kids that are just now getting their
licenses, became more educated on how to drive safer, I believe that
less deaths and injuries would occur. The best way I feel that would
decrease these high numbers of deaths would be to require driving
school classes in high school as well. Some people may see that
pointless seeing that you have to go to driving school anyways, but I
believe that if you start educating them at a younger age, there
would be a better outcome. Another way to reduce the risk of being
killed or harming others on the road could even consist of simply
putting down your phone. So many accidents on the road are caused by
being distracted on a phone over something that was not important at
all, so lets put a stop to that.

I
feel very strongly about the topic of preventing death and injuries
in car accidents because a few years ago, my father was in an
accident that should have killed him, but he luckily walked away
without a scratch. A family in a truck was pulling a boat behind them
and they ran a stop sign which caused them to smear into my dad’s
Chevy Cruze. This then caused my dad’s car to fly across the road and
end in hitting a pole. I believe God was watching him that day.
Luckily, I have never been in an accident myself in the two years
that I have been driving, but many of my friends have been and I am
always sure to tell them when they are in the wrong so that they can
protect themselves and others when they are on the road again.

One
of my biggest distractions when I am driving usually occurs when I am
driving somewhere new. This is because I tend to rely on a GPS to
direct me where I am going and I catch myself looking away from the
road to look at it. Traveling and going on adventures has always been
a huge part of my life and I highly enjoy it. Seeing that I plan on
traveling for the rest of my life, I need to fix this problem. The
solution I have in mind is to buy a windshield attachment that will
hold my phone up for me so that I can glance at it quickly and then
look back at the road rather than looking down. These are all the
ways I think would help prevent car accidents and deaths on the road
and I believe people need to take them more seriously.
