You make the choice

As
a young adult you will soon begin driving on the road. You begin
classes and lessons and even some trips to your school parking lot to
practice driving. Some schools even teach what the importance of safe
driving practices are so when you’re on your own driving, you and
others on the road around you are secure. My school has yearly events
on how important distracted driving is and reckless driving. What it
could cost you from maybe your choice or someone else’s. Drivers
education is so critical to have and experience before driving. When
we obtain a license it’s imperative to learn and develop the
maneuvers and vehicle control when driving. It helps young adults and
even people who may be getting their license later in life operate
cars. We also have to learn in the process that we do have to be
patient and smart while driving. A family friend was driving and
decided to leave practice and pick his brother up to go back home.
When he was driving he was stuck behind a truck for quite some
distance. Growing impatient when turning the corner, he drove around
a blind corner to get ahead of the work truck and collided with an
elderly lady! Upon impact, his little brother was instantly killed,
he was paralized from the waist down and the elder woman had almost
every rib broken in her body. When I was in 8th grade one of my best
friends was killed in a car accident due to a type of distracted
driving. Freadaly Delacruz was sleeping while in the car with her two
sisters. The sister driving, became tired and she veered off the
road, rolling the car and crashing into a tree on I-80 east in Ohio.
None of the girls had their seat belts on and the two other sisters,
ages 20 and 23, lived with mild injuries leaving Freadaly to die on
impact. A life altering reason as to why we should drive responsibly
is because we could cost others lives. One of my cousins was driving
around with her boyfriend and he had been drinking. He decided to
drive after a party and ended up crashing into a tree also, and
killing her. He lived past the accident but was responsible for
killing his girlfriend. I think it is important to learn the
importance of driving and knowing when to stop driving, knowing to be
patient and following the laws and rules especially the seatbelt and
never driving under the influence. Drivers ed could prevent
many deaths. Drivers ed can teach the importance of not only
the maneuvers of the car but just how the road works and how one
decision can forever impact your life, someone else’s family, maybe
a whole community or school. Some things we could do to make driving
safer is to drive more aware of our surroundings. Take more
consideration of ourselves and others while on the road because it is
a very dangerous thing to have responsibility for.
