I remember the day
I got my drivers license. I couldn’t wait to finally feel the grasp
of the steering wheel in my own hands and feel a new level of
freedom. After I got my license, I began to find that those who are
killed in car crashes could be me if I am not safe. Fortunately,
America has in depth programs and tests to pass in order to have the
privilege of being on the roads. However, once people reach a certain
level of confidence with being alone in a car, they also seem to get
more distracted while driving more frequently. Online and in class
courses do not prepare you for the thousands of distractions one will
experience in a short drive. Many new car models are designed to
alert a driver when they begin to lose focus on the road, but not
everyone can afford these expensive luxuries. A simple solution to
this increasing problem could simply be to require all people with
driver’s licenses to take driver safety courses and raise awareness
to distracted driving with person videos and news articles of those
who have lost a loved one because of it. An important reminder to all
drivers should be that no text is worth you or someone else’s life.
