Distracted driving kills!
Drivers Ed is beyond
important! Why it is being cut out of schools is beyond me. It helps
kids to get comfortable on the road before it is time for them to be
in the car by themselves and it teaches them things that we take for
granted, for example, what the different signs mean on the road.
The biggest issue on
the road today I believe is distracted driving. Every state needs to
be a hands-free state because the cell phones are literally killing
people. Harsher punishment for those who disobey the law on the road,
whether that be a heavier fine or license suspended for periods of
time based on the offense.
I have never been in
a car bad accident, but I have bumped someone from behind in a
heavily trafficked area in Nashville, TN. I allowed myself to be
distracted for less than 10 seconds, just enough time to look down at
my phone while it was ringing. Thank goodness it was just physical
damage! If we had been going any faster who knows what could have
happened to myself or the gentleman in the other car.
One step that I have
taken to be a better and safer drive is to turn on the do not disturb
on my phone. Every time I get in the car, even when I am not driving,
my phone automatically goes to the do not disturb where I can’t
receive texts or calls. I encourage others to do this as well and it
has made a huge difference I also get my radio going before I take
off driving because I don’t want to be messing with it when I am
trying to pay attention. I have multiple children and that can be the
biggest distraction of all so I do my best to make sure they have
toys to occupy them while I am driving. I love my life and I don’t
want to lose it for something as ridiculous as mine, or anyone
else’s, distracted driving.
