Safe Driving

In today’s day
and age, we cannot get away from vehicles. Whether we are the drivers
or are in the passenger seat, we are participants in the modern day
of transportation. As more and more people are getting a driver’s
license each year, it is important to be educated on how to drive.
Seeing someone drive and being the driver are two different
experience. Becoming a driver takes on a whole new level of
responsibility for not only the people in the car, but the other
drivers on the road as well. People get into car accidents every day;
it is urgent to prevent as many as possible. If people knew the cost
of driving recklessly, they would be less likely to do it. According
to Markets Insider, the leading cause of accidents in the U.S is
distracted driving. If students knew the risk they were taking each
time they looked at their phone, they would probably be less likely
to do so. In turn, would result in less accidents each year. We don’t
need smarter cars; we need drivers to pay attention.

I learned a lot
about safe driving in drivers ed. I am glad that I was able to learn
how to drive in a safe environment before I was out on my own. The
information that I learned in the classroom as well as on the road
helped me to be a better, safer driver. If I was never given that
opportunity, I would have not only put myself in danger, but others
in danger as well. I don’t think someone should be driving on the
road until they know how to be a respectful and responsible driver.
This past summer, my friend and I were driving into town and someone
didn’t see us when they came to the yield sign. They ran into the
car. This resulted in car damage that was not cheap to fix. My friend
and I both learned that day how to report a car accident and that car
accidents should always be handled through insurances. It is
important that each driver knows the consequences of getting into an
accident or being reckless before even getting into a vehicle.

To be a safer
driver, I need to stay off my phone and encourage others to do the
same. Drivers need to be focus on the road. Passengers can help by
texting for the driver or being the alternative driver if they get
tired or want to eat food. If the driver is driving alone, they need
to make the driving environment as distraction free as possible, such
as eating beforehand or putting their phone on do not disturb. These
will help drivers, such as myself, to be more focused on the road.
More focused drivers are safer drivers and the number of deaths from
driving will be reduced. Driving is a huge responsibility that should
not be taken lightly.
