Driving has always been one of the greatest
causes of deaths or injuries. Although, many people have not taken it
to the level of seriousness that it needs to be taken. Exposition and
precaution are the two important factors that ingrain the importance
of drivers ed. Statistics, news, and social media are used to
unveil the deaths of countless innocent lives due to driving.
Distractions and recklessness are the fundamentals to the high
numbers of deaths while driving. Cellphones, other people in the car,
music, and food are some of the many distractions that lure a human’s
eye away from the road and their surroundings.
When living in a world full of distractions 24/7,
that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to minimize the amount of
distractions and desires to be reckless. For example, you can limit
how many people you want to ride in the car with you while you’re
the driver. There is no need to pack your car into every seat you
have available when you know you’re the social and multi-tasking
type. Knowing the type of person you are plays a big role into your
driving decision making. Social butterflies tend to talk and get
distracted while driving and introverts want to focus on only one
thing at hand, such as driving. And of course cellphones are the
biggest distractions ever made. A good way to keep it out of reach
but still be able to have it near you in case of emergencies is to
silence it and put it in your glovebox. Many teenagers use their
phone to make plans to hang out or meet up while driving but that all
should be done before you get in the car. Although, if you are using
a GPS, you can have it lay down on the other seat and listen to Siri
talk you through the directions so that you can keep your hands on
the wheel and eyes on the road and mirrors.
As for being reckless and impatient, you can save
yourself the stress and energy just by giving yourself more than
enough time to allow traffic, long traffic lights, accidents, and
detours. Being late is not the only reason out there to be reckless,
showing off in front of friends is popular among younger teenagers.
Instead of thinking about yourself and having fun while being behind
the wheel, thinking of the other people that you have in the car with
you should be the first if only thing on your mind. You are liable
for each and every one of their lives including yours and should be
of your utmost priority when you are the one driving.
I myself have never experienced being in a car
accident but I have seen my friends drive irresponsibly. When I see
them pick up their phone, I ask if they want me to navigate them
through the directions or text someone that they need to respond to.
This manner works well and is highly suggested to keep your friend
that is driving safe. But your friends are not the only ones that
endanger themselves, whoever else you’re in the car with, help them
out so that they can focus on one thing at a time. Blasting the radio
or getting hyper are also by far very dangerous for the driver. Keep
composure and think of others, not yourself.
