Slow down, Be safe, It’s not worth it!

My friend and I love going after school to get smoothies. It became a
usual thing when she got her car. On one particular day she’s
driving. I was always very skeptical of riding with just anyone
because I’m very superstitious about other people’s driving. But
she’s my best friend, she’s not the best driver and has a little
road rage here and there but for the most part i trust her. We are
riding down the highway, listening to music and socializing. I glance
over a couple times at the speed denominator and she’s hitting 85
in a 60. I say, “ slow down Raven!” She laughs and plays it off.
I don’t say anything else. She then proceeds to grab her phone and
text her boyfriend. She skids off the highway, hits her brake and
gets back on the highway. I hit my head on the window. I’m
infuriated at this point. She began to apologize, I didn’t say a
word. Luckily, their were no cars behind us. We made it to our
destination and back home. I didn’t ride with her for about a week,
she approaches me,and says , “ Miko I’m very sorry”. I began to
explain to her that doing what she did was never okay.Texting and
driving is the main source of wrecks and speeding is just as bad. You
should never think it’s the “cool way to drive, or everyone’s
doing it”. When you step in a vehicle you are not only in charge of
your life but several others depicting how you decide to drive. Raven
unfortunately did not take the drivers ed. I did, in drivers ed they
explain these problems and how not to be so reckless in the driver’s
seat. I was taught the importance of not establishing these habits so
I can be a safe driver. I feel if Raven was made by the law to take
drivers ed then she would understand the importance of it. Put your
phone down, it’s not worth it, adjust your speed to the limit
requirement. These are steps to remember so we can reduce the amount
of car accidents per year.Drivers ed should be a mandatory
requirement for the law because it teaches us important steps to be
safe. Also higher tickets should be given out for people that have
been speeding and caught on their phone.So they could understand this
is no joke, we are not laughing. Something needs to be done to make a
change. Because it’s not worth an innocent life lost or hurt.
