” BE AWARE, BE SAFE” – DRIVING FOR OR AGAINST LIFE
NAME
– JAY BHATIA
As
Americans we love our cars, trucks, SUVs, and motorbikes for many
different reasons. One major reason is that they are an easy and
convenient mobility; a personal mode of transportation. It is rather
hard to imagine what this county would be like without all the roads
and vehicles on them. This is abundantly evident in Arizona, where
the majority of us drive to most all of our activities from going to
work or taking the kids for an ice cream. We jump into our vehicle
and go. However, a curious thing often happens when we get in our
car, truck and SUVs. We sometimes change turning into someone
different when behind the wheel of our vehicle. Many
of Today’s Drivers have Dangerous HabitsIntroduction:In this modern
era, the number of road accidents has increased significantly.
Reckless driving habits causes majority of these accidents. Many of
today’s drivers have dangerous driving habits. In our day-to-day
lives, you will ultimately cross paths with a careless driver. Some
people survive these ordeals while others do not. Reckless driving
can be seen all the time. These drivers do not only put their lives
in danger but also the lives of other innocent people. Valuable
property has been destroyed in the hands of irresponsible drivers. To
improve our driving it is essential to acknowledge some common
dangerous habits practiced by drivers.Discussion:The most common
dangerous habit is driving under the influence of alcohol. In my
opinion, this is the greatest offence. People with this tendency
should recognize that they put other in jeopardy. While driving it is
important to be attentive, alcohol makes this impossible (Wanberg et
al 17). Another bad habit to consider is eating while driving. Most
of the time the driver is distracted while eating. For example, a
driver spills ketchup on their clothes and then cleans it up. These
few seconds taken away from the road is enough for one to be involved
in an accident. Drinking and Driving is the most worst part in the
world as not only it take lives of the driver but also the public on
the road too. But in this all things the insurance company is been
profited highly as the insurance rates go up due to accidents and
people asusal are in loss. Accidents not only bring death but also
brings a silence to the family too.
As of 2000, there were about ninety million cell phone users in the
United States, with 85% of them using their phones while on the road
(Sundeen 1). Because of evidence that cell phones impair drivers by
distracting them, some states have considered laws restricting their
use in moving vehicles. Proponents of legislation correctly point out
that using phones while driving can be dangerous. The extent of the
danger, however, is a matter of debate, and the benefits may outweigh
the risks. drivers with cell phones place an estimated 98,000
emergency calls each day and that the phones “often reduce
emergency response times and actually save lives” (1). The phones
have business benefits too. According to transportation engineer
Richard Retting, “Commuter time is no longer just for driving. As
the comforts of home and the efficiency of the office creep into the
automobile, it is becoming increasingly attractive as a work space”
(Kilgannon 23). Car phones also have personal benefits. A mother
coming home late from work can check in with her children, a
partygoer lost in a strange neighborhood can call for directions, or
a teenager whose car breaks down can phone home. Unless or until
there is clear evidence of a direct link between cell phone use and
traffic accidents, the government should not regulate use of cell
phones while driving. A better approach is to educate the public to
the dangers of driving while distracted and to enforce laws on
negligent and reckless driving. Cell phones, specifically
handheld use such as texting, while driving decreases driver
awareness and the overall safety of road and at the end it result
into accident.
