Learn from Your Mistakes

Teenagers
around the world, whether they are in high school, colleges or
universities, have lots of responsibilities when it comes to turning
in assignments on time such as home chores, self-care or even have a
job on top of all of that. Learning to drive is every teenager’s
dream because not only do you feel more independent, but it also
makes them have more freedom. Before grabbing the wheel and heading
out into the road, they will have to inform themselves by adding
another class whether it’s online or in school, to their busy lives
which sound very stressful. Most teenagers find it very boring to
learn about traffic signs and warning signs, but it’s very
important for everyone to learn and know what to do when a hazard
occurs.

Keeping
the vehicle in good condition is very important to prevent it from
breaking down in the middle of the road. Knowing the difference
between good driving and reckless driving can also lower the number
of accidents. People should be more cautious and careful by putting
on their seatbelts all the time and making sure everyone in the
vehicle does too. Checking the weather to make sure the conditions
are safe to drive in. Never drive under the influence of alcohol or
drugs. Mental health is also very important when it comes to driving;
if the driver just had an argument or is very tired they shouldn’t
be driving at all. These are all key factors that can help reduce the
risk of an accident for yourself and others around you on the road.

In
the past, I was involved in an accident. My older brother Jose was
the driver, my brother’s pregnant girlfriend Kathryn was in the
passenger seat, and I was in the backseat. Kathryn and I always wear
our seatbelts, but my brother is always saying how much the seatbelt
bothers him, so it causes him to not wear it. We were in a rush
because my sister in law was getting contractions. It’s my
brother’s first child, of course, he was very nervous and very
scared. It caused him to speed and get to the hospital as fast as he
could. Jose tried speeding on a yellow light about to turn red that
it caused him to swerve and he nearly missed another car coming from
the other side of the intersection. Nothing happened to the cars or
any of the passengers, but after that day my brother learned to wear
his seatbelt.

I
don’t drive yet because well I have a fear of something happening
to me while I’m driving. In the past year, I have had 4 friends of
mine die of car accidents. The way that I will learn is by letting my
more experienced mother teach me. I will always make sure to put my
seatbelt on and drive at the right mph. I will never speed through
neighborhoods or at any given time.
