Learn to Drive, Save a Life

Learn to Drive, Save a Life.

The
key to reducing driving related deaths is education. Experience is a
huge component in creating safer drivers but with proper education
there should be no need for experience in how to avoid accidents. A
large amount of accidents are caused by the first driver doing
something either illegal or unsafe, then the second driver does not
notice and then gets into an accident because of something they did
not do. Proper education on being aware could prevent such
accidents.

Many
steps can be taken to reduce the amount of deaths related to driving.
One step could be to simplify driving conditions and intersections.
Eliminating the need for signs to explain streetlights or requiring
statewide roadway laws could prevent confusion from driving in
different counties and cities. Knowing what situations cause
accidents will allow people to avoid said accidents. For instance,
many people do not realize that while they can stop for a light
turned yellow the van, truck or other large vehicle behind them
can’t. A lack of enforcement of many driving laws allows many to
form habits of running stop signs, not using turn signals, driving
too close and driving too fast. While enforcing these laws properly
would prove difficult, explaining the purpose and reasoning for these
laws is not. Proper education of how not using a turn signal or
driving too close to another vehicle causes accidents would prevent
these habits from forming. A huge part of encouraging good driving
habits is requiring those who are still learning to drive with
someone who is an experienced driver so that they may guide the
learner to avoid accidents and develop good driving patterns.

Another
cause of bad driving habits is from distractions inside the vehicle.
I have friends and family who have bad driving habits and have gotten
in collisions that have resulted in the loss of life. These
accidents are caused mostly by a multitude of bad driving habits.
One person doesn’t use her turn signal if she doesn’t see any
other cars, another doesn’t turn on his lights when its cloudy.
This causes one driver to not notice the second so she doesn’t use
a turn signal, preventing the second driver from knowing she will
turn left and crash into her.

Steps
I can take to become a better and safer driver include checking blind
spots and turning on the turn signal before I turn, making sure I
have my headlights on cloudy days, watching for speed limit changes
and be aware of other drivers who may not have good driving habits.
