Grab
the Problem from the Wheels

As a new driver
myself, I believe drivers ed is the reason for most accidents,
but also responsible for most educated drivers. Right now the driving
education has split into two categories – the internet side and the
DMV/government side. This has caused many student drivers to take
shortcuts in learning and or learning improperly from their parents
on how to drive. Research shows that children under the age of 20
learn better and are more impressionable. With that if student
drivers are always being carted around by their guardians then they
are bound to see and replicate bad habits of 20+ years of driving
which can no doubt cause harm to the proper learning of driving. I
believe that a shift back to learning driving curriculum within the
safety of the school and trusted adults with the proper knowledge
would greatly reduce stress around driving safely. I also believe
that some sort of lock on phones while driving would be beneficial to
keeping one focused on the road.

I have been
involved in a car accident before. It was very scary at the young age
of 8. I was in the back of the car and another car from the U-turn
exit tried to come straight across into the gas station as we were
also coming straight from the light. Thankfully no one was hurt in
the accident and the other person had minimal car injuries as well.
Every now and then I see my mother on the phone when she is driving
and I politely remind her that it is very dangerous to do that, she
then hands me the phone to complete any task that she needed
immediately. I believe that the best way to stay accountable for
safe driving is to teach, so I normally take one of my neighbors kids
on elementary driving lessons describing the do’s and don’ts of the
road before she starts proper drivers ed.
