DON’T Hold The Phone Actually.
Driver
education brings students an understanding of the gravity of the
decision to sit behind the wheel. It sheds light on the consequences
of careless driving and gives students the tools to drive safely and
defensively. Some steps that can be taken to reduce related to
driving is to combat texting while driving. Precious lives are thrown
into danger each day due to people misunderstanding the severity of
texting driving. I believe that to stop the use of all phones during
driving people should put their devices in the glove box of their
car. This way someone who realizes texting is a bad habit won’t even
have the temptation of picking up their phone at a stoplight and
possibly just finishing their text even when they start driving
again. For those who don’t understand the gravity of texting while
driving I would say there should be a 30-minute session within
driving classes and driving tests to inform students of the risk of
being on their phone while driving. This session would contain a
video that shows the statistics and facts of the danger of texting
while driving. Then the students would be reminded of all the things
in life they care about. Maybe they would answer a few questions
about their favorite people in life and their family. They would have
an opportunity to reflect on their dreams and be reminded that one
text or tweet is simply not worth giving up all those things. Then
before a student is given their license they will be asked to come up
with a plan of their own to prevent themselves from using their phone
while driving. This puts them in charge and, since they are the
person who best knows their own weaknesses and temptations, they will
be the best person to find a solution. For those people who do not
understand how vital it is to stay off their phone while driving and
are convinced that it is in fact not a danger to themselves or other
people on the road, I would share real police reports of stories of
victims of crashes as a result of texting and driving. If they see
real pictures of damaged cars and hurt people, they may start to
grasp the issue. Along with this, I would suggest reviewing the
punishments with the students for people who cause these types of
accidents. With enough information and discussion driving related
deaths can be reduced dramatically just by addressing the dangers of
texting while driving.
