Teen Driving

Many teens text their friends while driving. Texting while driving is
the cause of many car accidents. Teens, their friends and vehicles
are the perfect mixture for disaster. Crash rates rise dramatically
when teens are with their friends. Teen crashes that involve a friend
in the car with them have had 40% of the drivers dying and 31% of the
passengers dying. 29% of the deaths were the people crashing from
being near the car. When a teen has a friend in the car with them,
they are usually talking a lot and the driver is not paying attention
to the road. in February 2012; there was a teen car accident in
Columbus, Ohio that happened because the driver was distracted. There
were two boys, in the front and a girl in the back. They were all
seventeen years old. They were on there way to an amusement park. The
two boys got into an argument. Because the driver wasn’t paying
attention, he crashed. The driver and the girl both died. The other
boy broke one of his legs. If the driver was paying more attention to
the road, and had less people in the car with him; maybe he would
have still been alive. Teens also drive faster and take more risk
when their with their friends. According to statistics males are most
likely to engage in these risky behaviors. Teenagers also try to
impress their friends by doing very crazy things. Although some of
the things sound fun, it leads people into serious accidents.

Drivers ed
is not enough. In driving schools; Instructors only teach their
students how to pass a driving test. They need to better prepare
teenagers for the responsibilities and obstacles that come with the
privilege of driving. The instructors only teach basic things like
the meaning of road signs, and how to turn. The students don’t
learn more useful things. After a teen finishes driving school they
still won’t know everything they need to know. For example; someone
who just got their license, might go somewhere at night, while it’s
snowing, there’s ice on the road and its hard to see. When they are
driving, there`s a high chance that they could crash. They just got
done with driving school, but they still crashed because the school
didn’t teach them what to do in a situation like that. Scientist
say that drivers ed does not produce a safer driver. Learning
the simple things taught in driving school will not reduce accidents.
It`s wrong for driving schools to only teach students how to pass a
driving test; then let them go driving around. The biggest threat to
teens who drive, is inexperience.I think teens should have their
permits for at least a year before they can have an actual license.
People with permits should always have an adult who owns a license in
the car with them. During their year with a permit, they can
experience and face obstacles with the help with an adult. They can
experience laws, how to fix things and all the responsibilities.
