The Most Dangerous Place in The World

The
Most Dangerous Place In the World

My whole life my
father has worked for a trucking company. Although he no longer
drives trucks, he is now the man in charge of making sure all the
loads of rock, dirt, and everything else arrive at its destination
safely and on time. As the truck drivers pull out of the yard to go
deliver their load there is a sign on the gate. I read it every time
I leave my dads work. It says “STOP you are about to enter the most
dangerous place in the world … the public highways.” Did you know
that around 34,000 people die each year because of driving? That is
more deaths than the people who have served our country in Iraq and
Afghanistan combined. This is a serious problem that needs to be
addressed. Making sure you drive safe doesn’t just save your life
but the life of the people around you too.

With my dad being
in the trucking business, I have seen and known people who have been
in wrecks. There have been many nights my dad has had to work late
because one of his truck drivers were hurt in an accident. Some
people do not understand that semi trucks need extra time to slow
down and they take wider turns than you do. People that are
uneducated about the needs of semi trucks and other people pulling
trailers can cause wrecks without realizing why it happened. One
thing you can do to stay safe on the road is to watch out for the
other drivers around you. Even though you might be driving safe
doesn’t mean the others around you are. It is always good to watch
your surroundings.

A big cause of
wrecks are from texting and driving. Sometimes it can be hard not to
look who sent you a text message or even a snapchat, but there are
ways to keep your phone from distracting you while on the road. Put
your phone on do not disturb before you drive, put it in your glove
box, and wait until you arrive at your destination to look at it.
Driving the speed limit, buckling up, and being cautious of the
people around you can help you be a safe driver. The signs, speed
limits, and laws were put into place for our safety. You can be a
change in the number of deaths in a positive way by ensuring you and
the others around you are playing it safe in the most dangerous place
in the world.
