Drivers Ed is a Must

Drivers
Education is a Must

In
2019, to get from place to place many Americans are valuing cars more
than they have in history.
About
88 percent of Americans own or have owned a vehicle.
(citylab.com,
Misra). Due to the large population of drivers, drivers ed
should be taken into account more seriously.

When
new drivers are put at the wheel, their knowledge and experience is
very low. In drivers ed, new drivers can get a better understanding
of not just
driving
but
also of being a pedestrian. Records in 2014 found that
drivers’
education reduces teen crash rates by 4.3 percent and lowered the
number of traffic tickets received by nearly 40 percent.
“(autoblog.com, Bigelow). These statistics prove that drivers
education has lowered the amount of car crashes and the amount of
traffic tickets.

One
step that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths is having a
periodic written or a driver’s assistant test. I believe that you
shouldn’t be able to take the written test, then the drivers test and
then just be done for life. I think drivers should have to take both
tests every 2 to 3 years. This law would refresh drivers of the
rules. Once you receive your license, you might not have to take
another driving test until your 70th birthday. This is way too long
of a time span without your driving skills being tested or evaluated.
Having the test every 2 to 3 years can keep the streets safer, and
lower the rate of vehicular deaths.

Another
step that can be taken is creating an anti texting and driving system
in each cell phone. This system would detect that you are driving a
vehicle and shut off the cell phone immediately. The cell phone would
stay shut off until you have reached a stoppage or your destination.
I believe this can be done since we are in the 21st century with a
great understanding of technology systems.

About
3 and
½ years
ago I experienced a car accident. My mother and I were located on the
Tri-boro Bridge in Queens, New York. Behind us, there was a car
weaving in and out of the lanes and a little out of control. As he
weaved by our car he ripped off our left side mirror. It was very
abrupt and sudden but no one was injured, which was great news. What
I believe caused the accident was that the driver was going over the
speed limit on the highway. Secondly, he was weaving in and out of
the lanes and not committing to just one lane.

As
of now I am not yet a driver. When I do begin to drive, I will
definitely not be on a cellular device while driving. This is a very
big distraction to drivers while at the wheel.
The
National Safety Council reports that cell phone use while driving
leads to 1.6 million crashes each year.

(edgarsnyder.com,Texting
and Driving Accident Statistics). Cutting out using your cell phone
while driving will prevent accidents.

While
behind the wheel, it is very important to be a safe and educated
driver.
