Driving
is a privilege not a right. Many individuals do not hold this
perspective when placed behind the wheel which is part of the
problem. At times our brains are absorbed with self entitlement, and
on the roads this is the issue. I’ve been
in the car countless times with friends and family members, myself
included, that show subtle signs of road rage because they do not get
their way. Another problem faced everyday on the roads is lack of
knowledge. In my opinion, only missing 3 on my permit test and 2 on
my driving test, the testing for divers is embarrassingly simple.
Most of the questions asked are common sense and a driver under
pressure for 10 to 20 minutes is flawed. Often drivers will fail
their behind the wheel test because of built up anxiety or the
mistakes made are a result of stress. This does not truly test an
individual’s driving skills. Relating this back to the permit test :
asking the question, “what do you do if
you are driving on a one way road and cars are behind you?”
and 3 of the 4 responses being obviously vague and
wrong also is a poor testing method. The solution is to implement
better testing methods. It might take longer to assess each driver,
but at least the DMV will be almost completely certain they are
incorporating a duration driver onto the roads. Going along with
this, I believe after obtaining a license for a certain amount of
years an individual should be obligated to take a class refreshing
one on the old rules and teaching the new rules of the road.
Following this a driver should get retested in a certain time frame.
These are methods that can be implemented to prevent small accidents
and fatal accidents around the nation.
