My Driving Experience

When I was younger, I always loved the idea of driving, I could not
wait until I was old enough to get behind the wheel myself, all my
friends already had their license which pushed me into wanting mine
even more. Once I started learning how to drive my love for driving
began to lower hearing about the many car related accidents being one
of the leading causes of teen deaths. I started driving when I was
sixteen, I was nervous to get on the road at first because I now knew
the high dangers of it. When I am driving somewhere, I always pass by
accidents on the street. Before my first time driving on the road, I
got the opportunity to take drivers ed and learn how to be
safe while on the road. Learning how important it is to stay focused
and wear your seatbelt helped me to start practicing these safe
habits early on. Unfortunately, not everybody gets the chance to do
this or they choose not to. Driving is something important to most
Americans, however, car related accidents are also one of the most
leading causes of deaths in America. According to an infographic on
DriverKnowledge.com, there are six million car related deaths every
year which means ninety people die this way every day. I see unsafe
driving all the time on the road, people driving over the speed
limit, following too closely, being on their phone, and not wearing
their seatbelt. We can lower this number by teaching driver
responsibility in schools. Drivers ed is not a required
course in school but making it a required course can teach teens how
to be more responsible drivers, making people more aware of deaths
caused by distracted driving and the dangers of not wearing a
seatbelt, among other important pieces of information. Teenagers,
however, are not the reason for all driving accidents. Implementing
safe driver courses in the workplace can also be beneficial to those
no longer in school. With these being implemented we will start to
see the number of car related deaths begin to lower. There have been
many instances where I have been in a vehicle where the driver is not
being responsible. Whether it be them texting and driving or not
having their hand on the wheel, I have also seen many people on the
roads trying to race each other or drive way over the speed limit to
impress their friends. I try my best to make sure I inform them
about how to be safe when driving if I find myself driving with
someone who is not following the rules of the road. There are many
steps you can follow to become a safer driver you can start by
putting away your phone when driving, buckling your seatbelt,
following the speed limit, and keeping your eyes on the road, these
simple steps are ways you can protect both yourself and other drivers
from dangerous accidents. Remember drive safe and responsibly.
