In the Blink of the Eye

Life
can change in the blink of an eye. One moment everything is perfect
and the next it’s over. The immense pain of losing a loved one from a
driving accident is astronomical knowing it could have been
prevented. For that reason, the importance of drivers ed is
essential in reducing the number of deaths. At just the young age of
16, an abundant number of American teenagers have the thrill to
receive their license and drive their first car, many who are unaware
of the dangers of the road. Factors such as alcohol, speed, and
mobile distractions cause accidents that can cost their life or
another innocent person’s life. Starting at this age or younger,
people can become educated on their driving safety at schools where
it’s enforced upon all students regardless if they are on the road
yet.

Although
empty roads seem like the perfect setting to speed, the road ahead
might just be the end of it all. At the tender age of 7, my family
and I decided to travel across borders to visit family members. Like
usual I hated the long trip, yet I admired the view of the mountains
along the way. We were very close to the city after 20 hours of
traveling, I was wide awake and looking forward to the good memories
that were going to be created until tragedy struck in front of me. A
green van struck a speeding red sporty car head-on that swirled off
the road into the bushes. The two people in the van seemed fine as
they got off to help the man whose arms were hanging out the car
while unconscious on the wheel. This gruesome experience has created
trauma and taught me to be aware of myself and others on the road.
It’s always important to be educated on the consequences of
irresponsible actions. As a young driver, I make sure to always have
a seatbelt on and be in my five senses. I can educate my classmates
on driving education and numbers related to driving deaths. It’s
essential to remember that everybody else can break the rules but
that doesn’t mean you have to break them, yours and others life is
more important.
