I
used to be an irresponsible driver. I did not know I was but looking
back at it there is no other way to describe my driving. I was not a
safe driver, and it resulted in me getting into an accident less than
six months after I got my license. I was following my friend too
closely and too quickly, so when he slammed on the brakes, I was not
able to stop in time. It was a completely avoidable accident and one
that never would have happened if I had dedicated more time to be a
better educated driver. Drivers ed is so important to youths
today and yet it is often overlooked. You can learn so much through
the various programs you are required to take before getting your
license, and honestly you can continue to learn so much after that
too. I think back to the classes I took and can recall so much
information that I use on a day-to-day basis. The instructors in
these courses do everything they can to help because they know how
crucial it is for the safety of people today. It is important for
everyone for the safety of themselves as well as the safety of
others. There are so many steps that can be taken to reduce the
number of deaths related to driving. Many deaths come from
preventable situations such as distracted driving. Things like phones
take so much of the driver’s attention that one of the most
important steps in driving is to avoid use of them. Acquiring a
hands-free device is a very crucial part of this, as it allows you to
keep your phone out of your hand and helps keep your eyes on the
road. Another important step can include limiting passengers in the
car if you cannot handle the distraction that comes with it. This is
a hard one as people tend to want to drive around with their friends,
but it is vital that you do not allow others to affect your driving.
It is always important that one drives defensively while out on the
road. It is impossible to tell what the other drivers are thinking or
what they are going to do, so it is best to drive defensively. This
allows you to control what you can and will help keep yourself safe.
These are all steps that I use on a daily basis while driving and
they help keep me and others around me safe.
