Let’s Drive Safe Than Sorry
Let’s
Drive Safe Than Sorry
As
I have recently turned 16, all I can think about is finally having
the privilege to
drive
my friends and I to the mall, movies, and about any place we can
drive to, however as
a
new driver I have plenty of my own worries about being on the road,
and the last thing i’d
want
is, to be responsible for the death of my friends and others. It’s
unbelievable that there
is
an estimated amount of 37,461 deaths per year just from motor vehicle
accidents, that’s
an
average of 102 deaths a day. It’s also unbelievable how easily we
can prevent that many
deaths
just by learning drivers’ education.
For
many new drivers and even for drivers in general, drivers ed has
been
scientifically
proven that it reduces the amount of accidents and tickets. A study
from the
researchers
at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln conducted a survey from
their state’s
teen
drivers, they compared a group of teens that took drivers ed and
another group that
was
supervised by their guardians. Results showed that the group with
drivers ed had
fewer
crashes at 11.1% while the other group had more crashes at 12.9%.
Tickets also had
similar
results, with 10.4% of the group with drivers ed received tickets as
opposed to the
other
group that had 18.3% that received tickets.
It’s
quite evident to comprehend that no person would want to be caught up
in a
crash,
and for many reasons, for instance a simple car crash can affect the
well being
of
the person more than you’d think, such as physical injuries which
can possibly
affect
the person for the rest of their life, or even worse cause death. And
it’s not just
physical
injuries, many people experience mental and emotional trauma, which
can
cause
stress, fear, anger, embarrassment and anxiety. Furthermore the
damage
doesn’t
stop there, financial loss takes a huge role too, in some cases
people can’t
afford
the expenses of a crash, to be able to cover the bill over the car,
repairs,
towing,
and medical bills takes a lot of money. With injuries and the loss of
a car this
can
prevent you from working to pay off the bills. Accidents can last for
only
seconds,
but the damage can last you a lifetime.
So
why don’t people take drivers ed? Unfortunately many people
don’t know what,
where
or how to get a drivers ed. And for that reason we can help inform
new drivers to
help
prevent less accidents. Luckily we have the internet to our
advantage, online you can
find
many sites that provide courses, if you have some free time at home
try out some
online
courses. If you rather get hands on, you can go to a nearby driving
school and take
some
lessons, with lessons many people feel confident when driving.
Personally i’ve heard
about
drivers ed, but never thought it could be the major difference of
whether or not i’m
risking
my life or others, however after researching and learning about
drivers ed i’m
planning
on making room in my schedule this summer for driving school, it’s
better safe
than
sorry.
