The Negative Effects of Unsafe Driving by Breana E Morrison

Throughout
my high school experience, I have seen many people take road safety
for granted and I have also seen the consequences that come with it.
I understand that it is easy to believe nothing bad can ever happen
when it has never been personally witnessed, but that is a very
dangerous way of thinking. People on the road can be reckless and
without taking driver’s safety seriously, many lives can be taken
away. I appreciate having a driver’s safety course in my school
because I know that it will make people stop and think before
starting their vehicle. I have always been aware of the bad things
that could happen if I did not drive safe. I think the scariest
aspect of car crashes is the fact that it can happen in less than a
second and change a person’s life forever. It can also happen to
anyone at anytime, which means there are no guarantees. With the use
of drivers ed, people can learn why taking precaution for
themselves and others is so important.

I have seen a friend who chose a reckless act which caused her to be
in a car accident. It took one small decision that almost lost her
life. It was raining one day after practice and on her way home my
friend was texting. While on her phone there was a sharp curve that
she did not pay attention to and she ended up falling off from the
road and into a tree. Witnessing this with someone I know personally
gave such a strong impact to myself as well as my community. She
missed more than one month of school but I am so happy to say that
she is still alive today. My friend is usually very safe and
responsible so hearing what happened to her truly shocked me. After
seeing her experience, I try even more now to make sure that I am
doing the right thing on the road such as never having my phone
accessible and always making sure I am focused. My mom would always
tell me “make sure to protect others on the road because most do
not for others”. When I was younger I did not understand what she
meant by that but now I know she means I should be proactive in the
safety of other drivers in order to protect myself because there is
always going to be a person that takes driver’s safety for granted.
