Driver’s
Education, without a doubt, is very important in ensuring there are
less deaths due to driving. Before getting behind the wheel you
should understand signs, how to adjust mirrors, gauges, dash lights,
and many other things should be checked on every once in the while to
keep your vehicle running in the best condition so it’s safe and
reliable. Actually driving is an entirely another thing to learn of
itself. A lot may come from going out and getting experience when
your first learning and developing good habits. Good habits include
looking far ahead, peripheral vision, speed control, seat position,
no texting, lane discipline, and merging.
Many
steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths due to driving and
a lot of it has to start with making good habits in the beginning
when learning to drive. Of course a lot of driving comes with
experience and it takes time. Inexperienced and drivers who simply
haven’t been taught correctly often have very bad habits like
driving next to a big truck and not passing, sitting in the left
lane, inconsistent speed, unnecessary braking, and lack of confidence
or too much confidence. It needs to be clear that impaired driving is
an absolute no under any circumstance. Today technology has come a
long way and many cars come with lane assist and blind spot detection
so this technology compared with good driving makes driving much
safer and will only get better.
I’ve
driven with many friends who are terrible drivers. A lot of people
oversteer and understeer and then over correct everything which is
just terrible. It’s bad for the passengers and gives everyone
anxiety. A lot of people beat up and abuse their cars even
unknowingly which is normal. Some people miss oil changes or
accelerate hard all the time and then brake hard which just puts
unnecessary wear and tear on the vehicle. My friend recently blew out
a clutch on a 2018 Honda thinking it’s a race car. How someone can
do that so fast to a new car amazes me.
Finally
for me to help others become better drivers and be a better driver
myself is to just do the best of your ability of the things listed
above. Develop good habits and work towards making them better. Be
patient and remember that slower isn’t always safer and that faster
is usually never safer. Take care of your car and avoid expenses.
Also it’s important to develop skills in all different types of
cars to figure out how they handle if you need to drive something
different and that you are confident you can. Big cars, small cars,
light cars, manual cars, electric cars, try everything and enjoy it
as much as you can.
