Staying Safe on the Roads
Driver
education is crucial in reducing the number of driver deaths. Drivers
can acquire information about how to handle situations from properly
merging on the roads to driving in bad weather conditions. By
educating people about driving, more people can become informed on
how to safely travel, which creates overall safer roads. Especially
when educating young drivers, they can learn the proper rules and
techniques before creating bad driving habits as they grow into
adults. Those that become educated can share safe driving tips with
their friends and family to keep them safe as well.
To
reduce the number of deaths while driving, people should always be
wearing their seat belts. This ensures that the driver and all
passengers are secure in the vehicle. The driver should also be sober
and awake. Alcohol impairs a person’s vision and reaction speed.
This makes it extremely difficult for the driver to see the road
properly and react in time to stops and oncoming traffic. Drowsiness
is dangerous at the wheel as well. Turning on music and staying well
rested before long periods in the car are important.
Personally,
I have been in a car accident. Two years ago, I was taking a left
turn at a green light when an oncoming vehicle came speeding from the
other lane of traffic. We swiped the corner of our bumpers and
crashed together. Thankfully, nobody was hurt.
To
be a better driver, I can follow speed limits more attentively. I can
make sure my car receives the proper checks and fluids it needs for
the vehicle to function properly. This keeps me safe, as well as
everyone else on the roads with me safe.
