The importance of
drivers ed in reducing the number of deaths as a result of
driving is significant, because according to the World Health
Organization, approximately 1.35 million people die each year as a
result of road traffic crashes. If more people are educated on the
rules of safety for the road, and take better precautions while
driving, I believe that this number could decrease. Some steps that
can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving
include: individuals holding their friends and family accountable to
practicing safe driving habits, individuals holding themselves
accountable to practice safe driving habits, and encouraging others
not to drive when intoxicated, tired, or angry. I have personally
experienced a car accident while being in the car with my mom. My mom
was driving and we were pulling into our drive way. She took her eyes
off of the road for a split second and did not see the car coming
down the road as she was pulling in. The other vehicle ran into the
side of our vehicle and ruined the entire front part of my mom’s
car. Thankfully everyone involved in the accident did not suffer any
injuries. However, this just goes to show that car accidents can
happen anywhere, even at your own house. The steps that I can take
personally to become a better driver include: holding myself
accountable to be an example for my younger siblings and my friends,
not proceeding to get behind the wheel if I am intoxicated, angry, or
tired, making it a point to not be on my phone while driving, and
always going the speed limit. There are many ways to practice safe
driving skills and these are just a few that I personally think are
extremely important. If I practice these simple tasks, I will be
protecting myself and others as well as influencing others to drive
more cautiously.
