The War on the Road

The
War on the Road

There’s a war on the road and it is causing more death every year
than the Korean War. We can only save lives by educating more people
on road safety and being more careful on the road. There are so many
ways to be safe on the road but people choose to ignore them, causing
a crash that could lead to the deaths of many. I have seen this many
times with people texting and driving or saying that they are fine to
drive after getting drunk at a party. They think that it won’t
cause any harm to send that one text really quick to that friend or
just to take that 5-minute drive home drunk. What they do not know is
that they are putting their life and so many others on the line. How
can we lower the amount of deaths related to driving? There are a few
steps that people can take to drive safe and keep others safe. Just
simple drivers’ education is an important step into becoming a safe
driver.

Drivers’ educations main purpose in the end is meant to teach safer
ways of driving so new drivers can know how to avoid accidents
therefore, causing less deaths. After time, drivers tend to think
they are experienced enough to break one or two of these ‘rules of
the road’. There are many steps we can take to lower the number of
deaths related to driving. One step we could take is a repetitive
mandatory driving course. This would remind drivers of what not to do
during driving and ways to keep themselves and other drivers safe. Of
course, not many people would want to take the class but it does what
it is supposed to do in the end. Another way to do this is by
speaking up when you see someone practicing unsafe driving.

There are plenty of times while my family is driving, I will see them
distracted. They will send a quick text or think that one drink will
be ok to drive with. When I see this I either tell them something or
I find a person that has not drank that night to drive us home. So
many other people should be doing the same. Just by speaking up the
death rate can lower from 30,000-43,000 a year, more deaths than the
Korean War (estimated 33,686 deaths). It is about the time that
people pay attention to how important drivers’ education is. Without
it many would or could be dead because of unsafe driving.
