Dangers of the Road

Most
people do not think about how dangerous driving can be. I have
recently started driving and in order to get a driver’s license I had
to take drivers ed. In this class our instructor taught us
about the standard stuff like, road signs, the rules of the road, and
the functions of a car, but I think the most important thing he
showed us was videos of car crashes. This had shown the class how
truly dangerous it could be to operate such a large vehicle. As
stated in road Safety Facts, “Nearly 1.25 million people die in
road crashes each year.” Road safety is the most important thing
taught in drivers ed because it can save many lives and help
bring that number of deaths down. One we could solve this problem is
to require safety training with the inclusion of drivers ed.
If people were required to take extra training just in safety
precautions, it could possibly reduce the number of deaths each year.
I would push that this happens because I have been in a car accident
and how scary it can be. A wreck less driver was speeding, not
looking where they were going and hit the front end of my mom’s car.
Luckily, no one was injured, but the car was totaled which put us in
a tough situation. If that person was driving carefully and had been
aware of their surroundings, the situation could have been avoided. I
have seen how fatal crashes can be and that is why I took it upon
myself to be a safe driver who does not take risks. I plan to
continue to be a safe driver and hope that makes a difference. I do
not want to be the person who makes one wrong move and it cost my
life.
