YES!
was the sense of freedom I felt when I first achieved my driver’s
license. I could remember my parents’ proud smile as I took the
ugly mugshot and received my license. It was a turning point for my
life, and I was excited to drive everywhere. However, reality came to
me as I began gaining more road exposure and experience. Driving was
fun and free until you end up in an accident as everything moves by
like a blur, and you are left shocked and surprised by how fast one
accident can change your life. Therefore, learning how to cope with
dangerous situations as well as gaining knowledge for self-precaution
is crucial in survival when driving. Drivers ed is crucial in
reducing the amounts of deaths due to driving because it helps
prepare you for unideal situations. Through drivers ed, teens
are motivated to strictly follow the rules of the road as well as
watch out for themselves as they drive. The rules taught in driver’s
education courses have been proven to work and save lives; therefore,
being able to utilize this knowledge will give advantage to drivers
and reduce the amount of deaths.

Even though drivers ed
does help prepare drivers and reduce death rates, it is sometimes
optional in many states. Therefore, additional steps should be
implemented to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. One of
these steps would be to limit distracted driving by making mobile
devices be turned to “Do Not Disturb” mode and placed in the
glove compartment. In this way, distracted driving will not be an
issue because the person driving will only be focused on the road and
not on the notifications on their devices.

I
have never been in a car accident; however, I witnessed an
irresponsible friend fall into a terrible car accident. Even though I
was not close friends with this person, I must say that I am grateful
they are still alive today. I witnessed a lack of concentration on
the road during a turn causing my friend to be hit on his driver
side. He was lucky to not have been badly injured for it was near the
front side of his car. Even though I was safe, I felt terrified and
felt chills crawling down my spine.

Even
though it is true that there are accidents that are unavoidable, in
order to be a better driver, I must be able to adapt to every
situation while I am on the road because every day is a different day
on the road. Placing caution in every aspect of driving will help
limit the chance of an accident, so I do try to set a good example
for my friends as well as my younger sibling because I love them all
and do not want them to end up dying over something that could have
easily been preventable.
