Don’t
be Distracted

Drivers ed is important in reducing the number of deaths
because of the lessons we learn in and out of the classroom. During
drivers ed class you learn how to drive but more importantly
you learn how critical it is to pay attention, drive sober and smart.
17% of drunk car accidents have resulted in deaths. Drivers ed.
teaches young drivers how important it is to not driver drunk or
high, do not be distracted by music, phones, or people in the car,
and to drive smart. I believe these lessons reduce the number of
deaths because of accidents.

Some steps that can
be taken are more drivers test in the classroom to ensure each driver
understands the rules of the road and the things that can happen at
any moment. These drivers that receive their license should be tested
every 5 years to ensure they are still aware of the rules and how
they should be driving during their everyday life. During driving
class they should be required to watch a movie with a teen car
accident in it with an essay after about how that accident could have
been prevented and the reasons of it happening.

Luckily, I have
never been in an accident myself but a lot of my friends and family
have. My sister about two months ago was driving on the highway and
she was too close to the car in front of her. She hit the car when
they made an unexpected stop. This reminded me that you need to keep
a good distance away from the car in front of you because you never
know when something could happen.

I find myself being
distracted from the radio while I drive, I am always changing the
channel or turning up the volume. The step I want to do to become a
safer driver is to keep the radio on the same volume, where it is not
too loud but I can still hear it. Also, I will leave whatever station
I change it to after I turned my car on. This will make me a safer
driver and keep other people on the roads safe as well.
