What it Takes to Drive Safe

I remember when
I took Drivers ed in the summer. I thought it was boring
when we read the Driver’s Handbook for hours on end, but I really
enjoyed the speakers. The speakers were fascinating to listen to and
they really did a good job at scaring you into driving safely.
Pictures of car crashes and stories that they told all stuck with me
as I practiced driving. I would say that these stories have made me
drive more cautiously. I think that Drivers ed affects
teenagers in a way that makes them think about how dangerous driving
can be if they are not serious. As more teenagers participate in
Drivers ed, the number of deaths happening while driving
will go down as well because teenagers will start to drive more
responsibly. Teenagers have been proven to be the most dangerous and
distracted drivers on the road, so if they learn during Driver’s
Education the impact they can have on other peoples’ lives, the
more likely they are to drive responsible. Drivers ed is
very important in reducing the number of deaths related to driving.

I think that one step that needs to be taken to reduce deaths is to
teach the kids while they are young. Kids learn better when they are
young and it will stick with them more. I remember having assemblies
in elementary school about not doing drugs. To this day, I remember
that and I have not touched any drugs. I think that if we do the same
with driving and teach the kids ways that they can drive safely it,
will stick with them throughout their life. I also think that there
should be a mandatory setting on every phone that turns the phone off
when the vehicle is in motion. I know that it is optional right now,
but I think that it should be mandatory. This will help reduce
distracted driving which will decrease the number of deaths related
to driving.

I have been in a
car accident, but not a devastating one. I was pulling into a parking
spot when the guy behind me rear-ended me. Luckily, high speeds were
not involved and no damage was done. He said that he was nervous
because the person behind him was tail-gating him and so he was
looking in his rear-view mirror and didn’t see me slow down to
park. I think accidents like this happen a lot and it all starts
because one person is driving irresponsibly.

I can be a
better and safer driver by using my blinker more often. I use it all
the time on roads, but I tend not to use it in parking lots. I also
think that I need to look both ways before starting to creep out. I
can help other people be safer on the road by pointing out
distractions and helping them to remove those distractions while they
are driving so that they, and everyone else in the car, will be safe.
