The Importance of Drivers Ed and Becoming a Safe Driver
The Importance of Drivers Ed and Becoming a Safe Driver
In a young person’s
mind, the thought of getting behind the wheel and driving to wherever
the hell you want to go gives off a pretty exciting feeling. Your
parents, grandparents, chauffeur, or whoever drives you around makes
it look so easy (assuming they’re experienced drivers). But is it
really that easy? If it were, maybe car accidents would never occur,
especially ones that result in death. This is why drivers ed
is so important: we need to inform ourselves of the safety rules of
the road to avoid devastating accidents that could possibly lead to
someone’s death.
We all get lectured
about how driving is a very serious thing, and (before you roll your
eyes) it is! With drivers ed, you will be able to learn and
understand the rules of the road that you’ll soon be driving and
avoid getting into deadly accidents. Here are some general things to
keep in mind to reduce the chances of any driving-related deaths:
-
Always wear
your seatbelt and make sure your passengers have theirs on too. It
could save a life. -
Stay focused
while you’re driving. Distractions like checking your phone will
put your life (and possibly someone else’s life) in danger. -
Drive
carefully and don’t exceed the designated speed limitit’s
there for a reason: to ensure your safety!
It’s unfortunate for
me to say, but I’ve been in several car accidents. There was a time
where I was in the car with my boyfriend, and I was sitting in the
passenger seat while he was driving down a main road. All of a
sudden, as I was changing the radio station, my body slams against
the passenger door. Before I knew it, our car spun 90 degrees to the
left and halfway into the lane of opposite traffic. Somebody came out
of the t-intersection and hit our car. Luckily, there were no
casualties, but if that other driver smashed directly into the
driver’s side instead of the rear left seat, my boyfriend could have
lost his life.
We all need to be
cautious while driving. Now I’m not saying that the other driver
never took drivers ed, but it would probably be a good idea for them
to refresh their memory. Again, drivers ed is there to help
you become a safer driver and reduce your chances of being in a
tragic accident.
Here are a few steps
we can all take to be better and safer drivers:
-
Have everyone
in the vehicle buckle up before you start driving. -
Don’t
overestimate your ability to multitask. Texting, eating, or changing
the radio station while driving are all distractions that can wait. -
Never drive
if you’ve consumed alcohol and/or drugs. You could seriously hurt
or kill someone if you’re driving impaired. -
Don’t
speed! It’s risky and dangerous for you as a driver, your
passengers, and other drivers.
