A
driver needs to constantly be aware of their surroundings and how
their mistakes can ruin their life or someone else’s life forever.
If someone completely understands the rules of the road and is
cautious less lives will be threatened, accidents can always happen
but there are many ways to prevent them. Accidents can happen from
drunk drivers; drivers who text, or simply a driver who did not wait
the full time of the stop sign and was not cautious of their
surroundings. You can understand the rules of the road but the
difference is portrayed only when you take action.
Many
steps can be taken to reduce driving related deaths. Obeying traffic
laws to begin with, drive everyday as if you were attempting to pass
your drivers test for the first time. Be cautious, always be aware of
your surroundings, predict others’ next step, always assume the
worst. Avoid all distractions; do not drive if drunk, sleepy, or on
drugs, do not text. If everyone followed these rules, less deaths
would occur.
I
have been present when people decide to drive irresponsible, due to
impatience, mostly. It is quite frightening as the passenger tries to
predict what could happen. Sometimes letting the driver know you are
frightened by their driving skills causes them to be more careful
when you’re with them but never completely sure they will be
responsible on their own. There was a case of death due to drunk
driving to a youthful boy in the town I go to school. It was not the
boys fault, he was actually the designated driver, but he got hit by
a drunk driver and passed away. His family mourns him everyday, he
was truly a good kid. Now, he doesn’t get to experience his life
due to someone who wanted to drive irresponsibly, that person needs
to carry that weight on their shoulders for the rest of their life
when it could’ve easily been prevented.
One
way to help the population be better drivers is to spread the word,
causes and outcomes. Maybe if you drive responsibly, others will take
after you and do the same. If you witness irresponsible driving,
speak up. Make sure, above all, that you understand the rules of
being a good driver.
