The “key” to driving
Driving
is a necessity in life depending on where you live. It’s what you
rely on to get to work, school, the store or wherever you may be
going. It’s important to know how to operate a car safely so you
don’t hurt yourself or others around you. In fact, many people
believe that they themselves will never get into a car accident. I
was involved in an accident but I was too young to remember
considering I was only 3 years old. In 2006 my mom was driving us
home and she put me in the front seat and she had previously been
drinking and involved with a party. We were just about 10 minutes
from home when she went around a corner and lost control of the car
and we hit a big oak tree. One of the nearby houses heard the crash
and ran out to see what had happened. He called 911 and he tried to
see if my mom was conscious but she had been knocked out from the
impact of the crash and I had hit my eye on the dashboard. They had a
helicopter pick us both up and take us to different hospitals but she
unfortunately didn’t make it to the hospital because she passed
away from cardiac arrest, I however made it out luckily with just a
scar. They said this was due to her not having her seat belt on.
Drivers ed is very important but most people look past it
because they think that driving is no big deal and that it’s so
easy. The fact of it is that yes, driving can be easy once you have
enough experience but what some people don’t understand is that it
is just as easy to get into a car accident and cause the injuries or
casualties of yourself or others. Many steps can be and should be
taken to prevent deaths related to driving; always wear your seat
belt, don’t drink and drive, don’t be distracted by people with
you in the car, always watch the road and don’t take your eyes of
it for even a second and watch your surroundings outside the car. For
example, keep a watch for oncoming cars, animals, miscellaneous items
and even watch for bad weather conditions. Some steps that I
personally take to be a safe driver is always wear my seat belt,
watch the road and always check my surroundings when I’m driving. I
think that other people that have a situation similar to mine should
reach out and share with people how it personally effects their life,
the lives of their family and the people around them. I think it’s
hard for people to see the importance behind drivers ed
because they haven’t had something happen to them that opens up
their eyes to how dangerous driving can be without the right
education. Drivers ed is a small cost for a long life.
