Become
a Good Driver
The
importance of drivers ed is highly important due to you are not
only putting your life in danger but, also anyone else in the car
with you or around your car. It is important to drive carefully and
the only way to learn that is by drivers ed. Drivers ed
teaches young and old people to be better drivers by teaching them
how to drive a car, the importance of road signs and traffic lights,
and to be cautious of those around you. Drivers ed is an
important part of reducing the number of deaths resulting of driving.
I
believe some important steps that can be taken to reduce the number
of deaths related to driving to be anticipating the actions of
others, be courteous to other drivers, and to always be 12 seconds
ahead. To start off with, anticipating the actions of others is a
great first step. When you anticipate the action of another driver
you are being aware of your surroundings. For example, you approach
a four-way and you notice the car on your right seems to be not
slowing down enough. You wait till the car gets to the stop sign to
make sure that he/she will not go through it as you head straight.
This is anticipating the action of the driver. Most drivers act
without thinking which can cause serious accidents. A next good step
is to be courteous to other drivers. The road is open to everyone and
if we didn’t have traffic signs or traffic lights, the roads would
be messy. By being courteous to other drivers you are making the
roads a better place. Lastly, always be 12 seconds ahead. This is
similar to anticipating the actions of other drivers but, however
this is more focused on the road in front of you. As a driver who
lives out in the county, I am used to always looking 12 seconds ahead
due to driving on the back roads where deer pop up. When you are
scanning the road, you are preparing yourself for something to
happen. For example, the car in front of you hits the breaks
suddenly because of you being 12 seconds head you were able to break
before ending up hitting the car. Overall, I believe these three
steps are a great way to reduce the number of deaths related to
driving.
I
have had an experience of being in a car accident. Last year, I was
driving to school with my friend and the roads were very slick. I
noticed that the next traffic light turned red and that the cars in
front of me were slowing down, so I started to break. Before I knew
it, I was sliding into the car in front of me. The good thing about
this accident was that I was only going 10 mph or less so there was
no horrible damage to my car or the other driver. However, I did
learn that no matter how slow you go during bad weather an accident
can always happen and that I should be more cautious when roads are
icy.
I
think that for me being more aware of other drivers on the road and
my surrounding will help make the roads a much safer place. When you
know what is going on around you, you are better able to act and make
smart choices. I also think that paying less attention to your phone
is a huge step that not only I should take but, other should too.
Being a distracted driver can cause accidents and can also lead to
serious injuries depending on how bad of the accident. With today,
more people are connected to their phones and cannot seem to put them
down. I am even one of them. I believe if we all put our phones
down and become good drivers by putting our life and other’s lives
before a phone call or text when driving, then we can reduce the
number of deaths related to driving.
