Do Drive Diligently
Everyone
needs to drive diligently, and to do so with full knowledge, everyone
must learn ways to drive diligently and to keep refreshing that
knowledge every so often in order to be as safe as they possible can
be on the road. Drivers ed is extremely important in reducing
the number of deaths that occur as a result of driving. Getting a
drivers ed both knowledge-based and physically are crucial
components of being a successful, cautious driver. People learn
mostly by kinesthetic activities, which is why I say it’s crucial
for potential drivers to learn how to drive kinesthetically. I read
everything I could and had knowledge, but nothing could compare to
what I learned while behind the wheel actually operating a vehicle…it
brings things to perspective. Knowledge-based learning is also
important for becoming a great driver because you can’t just judge
what you think is right to do on the road…there are laws in place
for a reason and specific guidelines that need to be followed in
order to create a safe environment for everyone.
Honestly,
as I stated above, I do believe it’s crucial for people to be
tested on their driving skills both physically and knowledge-based.
It’s great that there is a written test that must be taken for
people to pass and obtain their driver’s license because it really
makes sure that people have a general understanding of what is
permitted on the road versus what is not. I do believe, however, that
older people need to be retested for their driving skills. I’m not
just talking about the extremely older category, but maybe every 10
years people under 60 should be retested and after 60 years old,
maybe they should be retested every 5 years. This will ensure that
all drivers are up to date with their knowledge. In comparison, I
took a test in 8th
grade on all 50 states and their capitals, and although I got 100% on
it then, I do not remember most of it now. That’s why it’s
important for re-testing to be done.
I
know this can get expensive but I also know it’s possible. EZ pass
is a convenient way for people to pay for tolls, and EZ pass does so
by having cameras constantly check drivers’ license plates as they
go by…but these cameras don’t just check license plates, but they
catch a glimpse of the drivers themselves. I’m not saying we need
an EZ pass metal bar over every square foot in town, but perhaps if
the DMV had some sort of hidden camera, they’d be able to see who
is following guidelines. Adding traffic lights in areas that can be a
bit congested at times will also make travelling quite smoother and
efficient, and most importantly, more safe.
I
have seen many people driving recklessly in my few short years of
driving experiences unfortunately…and the shocking thing is that
some people don’t even know they’re driving recklessly! I have a
friend who is so sweet and down to earth and really a great person,
but the first time I was a passenger in her car, my heart was jumping
out of my chest and I had anxiety the entire ride. She braked way too
late, and I know that if that happens often, she’s likely going to
get someone tailgating her who may not be able to brake in time and
then there would God forbid be a couple cars in an accident. It’s
hard to tell someone that they’re not driving the safest, but for
your own protection and theirs, they need to know.
People
nowadays are usually in a rush to get from point A to point B, so I
understand how it can be scary to drive because people may sometimes
feel peer pressured to go faster or turn when they shouldn’t or
whatever the case may be just because the person behind them is
impatient. What I can do to become an even better driver is to have
my eyes and ears over the entire road even more so at all times. I
can keep a car length’s distance between me and the car in front of
me every time I stop at a light or at a stop sign, and I can
encourage others to drive safely. We only get one life so we need to
take precaution every time we get in a vehicle, whether it’s our
own or someone else’s.
